Soooo, guess what? 👀 Last May, Cocomilk flew to Malaysia to participate at the Kuala Lumpur Illustration Fair (KLIF)!
Cocomilk has a rich portfolio when it comes to illustration as we have interdisciplinary designers who are also illustrators. We’ve been wanting to organize or join a similar event in Manila but when the opportunity in Malaysia came up, it became our first channel to finally showcase our illustration talents.
Our main exhibitors were Renee, Mia, Luke and Didi. Renee’s produced works were dreamy risograph prints and glow-in-the-dark earrings. The earrings in particular were adored by many and looked very in theme with Mia’s works, which featured intricately drawn winged creatures (moths, butterflies, you name it!). Mia’s illustrations bring you to a sleepy world filled with friends that come out at night in the most hidden parts of the garden.
Diverting from the 8-head anatomy proportions are Luke and Didi’s works: Luke’s illustrations are show-stopping stark shapes which beautifully contrasted with Didi’s drawings of tense characters with wobbly and nervous lines.
While our main exhibitors flew to Malaysia ahead for registration and setup, our designers Ninna, Andy, and Trisha followed to exhibit their art and crafts too. Trisha’s cat stamps were a blockbuster with the kids, Ninna’s elegant drawings were head-turning, and Andy’s keychains caught the attention of rabbit lovers.
Together with Renee’s and Mia’s works, Cocomilk’s booth was filled with vibrant colors with the diverse illustration styles.
As the event progressed, we received so much love from friends and visitors—meeting illustration lovers and fellow artists alike.
Apart from the exhibit, we got to explore a lot of cafes, bakeries, and restaurants since most of us are foodies. We didn’t expect to meet a handful of Filipino staff, both in STG Cafe and Dough by Meg!
We received discounts and freebies as Filipino customers when we visited their workplaces.
10/10 would recommend their food! We’re definitely putting it on our “to visit” lists when we come back.
Flying a group abroad is definitely not easy, but our trip was worth it. We were in great care as the fair was well-organized and the staff were kind and reliable; we shared our thought process as artists with the people we met, and being surrounded with so many great artists and people got us inspired to make more.
The organizers of KLIF plan to hold another event next year, hopefully we’ll be part of it again. Cocomilk in Kuala Lumpur again next year? What an exciting thought!
We hope you’ll continue to support and cheer us on!
